01 — THE PROBLEM

Generic AI tools aren't built for a kid's creative universe — no context, no guardrails, no continuity.

02 — CONSTRAINTS

What the system had to respect.

01Needed the child's full creative canon in context — not a cold start every conversation
02Guardrails had to be built in from day one, not bolted on
03Voice and image generation both had to stay in character and on-budget
04Had to work comfortably in both portrait and landscape, wherever the next idea happens

03 — THE SYSTEM

A workflow people can follow.

01

Know

The companion knows the child's full creative canon — characters, series, project history — and responds in context instead of starting cold.

02

Voice

Custom voice runs through ElevenLabs; image generation is tuned for stylized comic output via Replicate and FLUX.

03

Guard

Guardrails and behavioral instructions were built in from day one, not bolted on after the fact.

04

Remember

Selective memory injection from Supabase keeps the system context-aware and cost-controlled.

04 — DECISIONS

The choices that made it practical.

Decision 01

Context over cold starts.

The companion carries the child's creative history into every conversation instead of resetting each time.

Decision 02

Guardrails from day one.

Behavioral limits were part of the design from the start, not a patch added later.

05 — RESULT

A custom AI creative companion built for one young maker's whole imaginative world — not a generic chatbot in a costume.

Not a generic chatbot in a costume

Generic AI tools aren’t built for kids. They don’t know a child’s creative universe, they carry no guardrails tuned to a young maker’s needs, and they feel like a tool instead of a collaborator.

A custom AI companion was built for a young creator whose interests span comic book creation, character design, stop motion animation, prop making, and 3D printing. The companion knows the child’s full creative canon — existing characters, ongoing series, project history — and responds within that context rather than starting cold every conversation. Custom voice runs through ElevenLabs. Image generation is tuned for stylized comic output via Replicate and FLUX. Guardrails and behavioral instructions were built in from day one, not bolted on after the fact, with selective memory injection from Supabase keeping the system both context-aware and cost-controlled.

A genuine creative collaborator

Seven distinct cost optimizations keep the system running well under budget while staying fully in character. Designed for comfortable use across both portrait and landscape orientations, wherever the next idea happens.
